Gardens for Good

In February 2021, the Garden Conservancy launched a new, annual initiative, Gardens for Good, which allows us to award grants typically ranging from $5,000 to $13,000 to small public gardens and organizations that are making a significant impact in their communities through garden-based programming.

We are grateful for the generosity of donors and attendees of our 2020 Virtual Holiday Toast, who helped make possible the first round of grants.

The Garden Conservancy is honored to support the work of the following organizations:

Lord & Schryver Conservancy, Salem, OR

The Elizabeth Lawrence Garden House & Garden, Charlotte, NC

The Midland Gives campaign for the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden, Bishopville, SC

Project EATS, New York, NY

Southside Community Land Trust, Providence, RI

The Anne Spencer House & Garden Museum, Lynchburg, VA

Sylvester Manor Educational Farm, Shelter Island, NY

Walnut Way Conservation Corp., Milwaukee, WI

In addition, we also awarded two slightly larger grants, one to the John Fairey Garden to help the garden recover from the ravages of the recent winter storm in Texas and the other to the Gardens of Alcatraz to purchase an all-terrain vehicle for the garden’s horticultural staff and volunteers.

The John Fairey Garden, Hempstead, TX

The Gardens of Alcatraz, San Francisco, CA

The gardens selected for this annual program represent a cross-section of gardens and organizations, all nonprofits and many of them small organizations, with whom we work in our preservation work as well as in Open Days and our other educational programs. They also include a few new friends brought to our attention by our members and partners. We are delighted to support their valuable work in their communities across the country.

We are currently formalizing application guidelines. If you would like to be notified when the 2022 guidelines are realeased, please email us at gardensforgood@gardenconservancy.org.
