Hortulus Farm
Wrightstown, PA
Meadow, Water feature, Alpine/rock garden, Garden structure/sculpture, Fruit/vegetables, Rare plants/plant collection, Woodland/shade garden
Garden owner's description: Our garden appears as an integral part of the Pennsylvania landscape, as befits an eighteenth-century farmstead with barns and a healthy population of animals. We are lucky enough to be nestled in our own little valley, quite far off the road and unusual for a house of this age. Our 100 acres try to respect the integrity of the farm’s historical significance and the natural landscape, with the occasional whimsical or formal statement thrown in. There are lots of woods and pasture, lots of shrubs and naturalized perennial plantings in the stream and woodland gardens, yet also formal borders, follies, gazebos, and sizeable herb and vegetable gardens. All are anchored by the formal simplicity of classic Bucks County architecture.
In the past years, we have been fortunate enough to have had the gardens featured in House & Garden, House Beautiful, Horticulture, Garden Design, Organic Gardening, Country Living, Quest, and Food & Wine magazines, as well as on HGTV’s “Secret Gardens of Philadelphia” and “The Travel Channel.” You can read all about the gardens in our recently published book, Chasing Eden, from Timber Press.
Garden Extras: We have an outstanding nursery including rare plants for sale from our gardens and many tropicals not seen in other nurseries.
