Portland, OR

Located in the newly revitalized North Portland, this garden combines both informal and formal planting schemes on a double, corner lot. Hidden behind retaining walls and tall hedges, the garden features several garden rooms to wander through. The European-inspired formal rose garden features rose beds, perennial borders, and grass walkways all around a central fountain. On your way to the rose garden, stroll past the northwest garden with unusual conifers, shade-loving perennials, and an aspen grove complete with swinging hammock. The planting beds are changing around a new two-story addition to this 1922 bungalow. The mature palms, eucalyptus, and kiwi arbor were spared in the construction. They make this shady area a great place to showcase tender tropicals such as abutilon, hardy fuchsia, bananas, gingers, and salvia.
