The Gardens at Harmony Woods

The Gardens at Harmony Woods, nestled into a cathedral of redwoods, reflect a penchant for collecting an enormous range of unusual and beautiful plants. The emphasis is on rhododendrons and conifers, with more than 300 specimens of each, but they are a small part of a vast array of plant material gracing the beds. Education through research, cataloguing, and labeling is an integral part of the owners’ collecting and a way of sharing their knowledge. The gardens were created over twenty-five years ago and continue to evolve. Waterfalls and a stone bridge add the timeless magic of age. Rusted artifacts that complement the redwood bark are situated throughout the beds. Gently falling waters, ever-changing colors, and contrasting textures delight and nourish every day. The Gardens at Harmony Woods has been accepted into the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Gardens.
Directions: GPS does not work here! Gordon Lane is halfway between Van Damme State Park to the south and the village of Mendocino to the north on Highway 1. Turn east onto Gordon Lane and continue to the end of the paved road. Turn left onto the dirt road and go to the end and through the redwood gate. Number 44380 is on the left gatepost. Enter the property and continue straight ahead to park in the dressage ring.
