Ayurveda is the ancient Indian science of holistic health care; the word itself means “knowledge of life.” The use of herbs is an important component of Ayurveda. Scientific studies are confirming their efficacy and herbal use for health in the West is increasing, but the centuries of accumulated knowledge that Ayurveda represents can seem overwhelming. Garden owner Indira Rajan will show simple ways we can improve our health with Ayurveda. Based on her experience gardening at her home on New York’s Hudson River, she will share plants we can easily grow outside in temperate climates or in pots that move indoors for the winter. Indira will describe the health benefits of these plants and simple ways to incorporate them into our daily lives, such as mixing into a salad or brewing as tea.
