Landscape designer Donald Pell believes that building gardens is about creating a powerful, even visceral,  experience of time and place. Embracing the New American Garden movement, Donald looks to connect gardens and people with the essence of the regional landscape. Reverence for these wild places informs his decisions about process and beauty. Walk with Donald through the fourteen-acre farm that has been home to his firm since 2018, to see this place through his eyes and understand his approach to design.

Spiraling out from a Colonial farmhouse, new areas of this landscape are developed and improved with both broad vision and an economy of means. Simplicity and repetition create harmony and serenity while celebrating seasonal change. In the course of the afternoon, Donald will share what has worked in this garden, what hasn’t, and what he has learned along the way.
