Garden designer Nan Sinton will focus on the special challenges of gardening in seaside settings as she discusses the plantings and design decisions at 85 South Water Street and the benefits of long term collaboration with owners who are enthusiastic gardeners. The challenges span from working with mature trees to addressing salt spray as well as resilience through seasonal storms. This garden tour will walk you through the decisions that make this garden a place to be enjoyed on many levels. Unusual hydrangeas, hostas, tender salvias, and dahlias are woven into place. Plants with specific seasonal interest are used in unexpected combinations and are selected with an unrelenting emphasis on the best forms for the garden’s specific roles that exemplify “right plant, right place.”
