Mary Squyres' Garden
Ithaca, NY
Woodland/shade garden, Meadow, Organic/toxin-free, Rare plants/plant collection
Mary Squyres’ garden—filled with interesting and unusual plant specimens, many of them native plants—is a garden for gardeners. It features several shrub and perennial beds, some centered on a stone patio by the house, others forming borders between the lawn and woods. One garden features azaleas, mountain laurels, and exotic Arisaema; another includes native Canada lilies, starry false Solomon’s seal, and primroses. Meandering paths take you through the remainder of the property, where the natural woods are interplanted with many native trees and shrubs. Look for cucumber magnolia, yellow birch, black gum, and swamp magnolia, among others.
