Sam & Karen Brindley’s Garden
Indianola, WA
Dry/xeriscape, Fruit/vegetables, Rare plants/plant collection, Scenic view, Woodland/shade garden
Enter a cathedral of Douglas fir bordered by woodland plants in a rich variety of colors. Next a cut flower garden, where a spectral blend of pink, lavender, and blue paint a flowing canvas. The sandstone house entrance is terraced with a strong, evergreen palette. Helleborus, Daphne, and Sarcococca bring fragrance and color in the winter, yielding to Abutilon, roses, Roscoea, Podophyllum, Beesia, and Arisaema when summer arrives. Foodies might want to see the greenhouse area. Delicious!
Meander to the tropics, where bananas, dates, bamboo, palms, and scrumptious vines weave together in lush, vibrant tones. Farther on, the panorama of Puget Sound comes into view and Mediterranean influences spring to life. Grasses, Agapanthus, Echium, Eryngium, lilies, and an immeasurable number of friends, both floral and structural, create waves of distinct color. A hardscape of bridges, a stone patio with a unique fire pit, and floating stones add clever whimsy. This garden, with its collection of rare and unusual varieties, is an Eden for all the senses.
