Meadow, Dry/xeriscape, Water feature, Garden structure/sculpture, Fruit/vegetables, Organic/toxin-free, Rare plants/plant collection, Scenic view
Situated on 6.5 acres of south-facing high bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Windcliff is the home and garden of Dan Hinkley and Robert Jones. The house, designed by Robert, and garden are fifteen years old. The garden is primarily plant-driven, showcasing Dan’s collection work of 35-plus years. The two-acre site south of the house is naturalistic in style with a large collection of xeric-minded grasses, perennials, shrubs, and small trees. A potager surrounds the greenhouse and the area north of the house and along the drive is meant as an arboretum. A new experimental meadow, approximately one-half-acre in size, is approaching its fifth growing season.
Plant collections of note include Acer, Sorbus, Mahonia, Magnolia, and Schefflera, while one-offs, such as Sinopanax formosanus, are plentiful. Restroom facility is a portable toilet.
