Appledore

Washington Depot, CT
Woodland/shade garden, Meadow, Water feature, Organic/toxin-free, Rare plants/plant collection, Substantial native plants

Created on the site of an old farm, Appledore has grown over two decades into a multi-acre informal garden of overflowing beds, meandering paths, and unexpected destinations. It delights in all seasons and reflects my passion for interesting trees, shrubs, and perennials. I have never had a plan -- the garden has evolved organically by choosing what strikes my fancy and planting with an aesthetic of wild abundance. While much is unusual, there are plenty of old favorites. Over time, I have come to pay more attention to the garden as habitat-a pesticide-free home for birds, bugs, and pollinators-along with moles, voles, rabbits, and the occasional errant bear.
