The Gardens at Lake Hill House
Whitefish Bay, WI
Scenic view, Water feature, Fruit/vegetables, Woodland/shade garden
The first thing you notice as you arrive at Lake Hill House is the majestic stone residence designed by prominent Milwaukee architect Alexander Chadbourne Eschweiler in 1926 and a vintage Italianate rococo fountain, now the focal point of the courtyard, that formerly graced the Morton Estate in Lisle, Illinois.
An urban oasis 27 years in the making, the primarily perennial gardens at Lake Hill House take advantage of the delightful microclimate offered by their location high on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan at the apex of the bay. Thematic garden rooms include the Cathedral, Woodland, Infinity View, and Terrace Gardens, as well as the Garden of the Laughing Dog, Upper and Bluff Vegetable Beds, and the newly installed all-native-species bluff-restoration project.
