The Rocks

Washington, CT

The Rocks is the preeminent example of the many summer cottages built by notable New York architect Ehrick Rossiter in and around Washington's green a century ago. Nearly twenty years in the making, the large rambling Shingle-style house offers views over the Shepaug River Valley. In the garden, he framed formal gardens with colonnaded pergolas and sculpted the land to highlight the rocky ledges. Equally impressive as the house and landscape is the extraordinary collection of trees that have now grown to enormous proportions. The house has recently been restored and the gardens reimagined; this is the first opportunity to explore this magnificent landscape and garden.
